In TerraFirmaCraft, the climate and the time are both very important factors. Let's start with the Calendar.
At any time, you can view the calendar by pressing E, and clicking on the calendar tab. This will show the Season, the Day, and the Date.
The Calendar Screen
There are seasons, and the weather and climate will change along with them! There are four seasons in TerraFirmaCraft, each divided up into Early, Mid and Late months. The four seasons are:
The current season can influence the temperature of the area, the precipitation (if it will rain or snow, and how much), among other things. Pay attention to the calendar tab, it will be useful!
Now, onto the climate...
Another tab on the main inventory screen is the Climate screen. This one shows information about the current location
From top to bottom, the screen displays the Local Climate, the Average Annual Temperature, the current temperature, the Average Annual Rainfall, the current rainfall, the peak rainfall, and the season when the peak occurs.
The Climate Screen
Temperature in TerraFirmaCraft is influenced by a number of factors:
The last line shows the current temperature, including all these aforementioned factors.
Temperature can influence many things: if crops and plants will grow, if snow and ice will form or melt, and more.
Rainfall is influenced by a number of factors:
The region, especially the longitude (X coordinate) will play the largest role, with wetter climates generally to the east of spawn. Distance from the coast also plays a role, with drier climates farther inland.
The current season and local climate will also influence rainfall levels. These effects are also determined by the region: west coasts generally have dry summers, whereas the east sides of large continents have dramatic summer monsoons. The centers of continents and oceanic islands tend to have less seasonal variance.
The annual rainfall is measured in millimeters (mm) and can be between 0mm - 500mm, though the instantaneous rainfall can reach 1000mm in highly seasonal climates. Rainfall affects the types of flora and fauna that are found in an area, as well as how often rain and snow occur.
Rainfall is also important as it affects what things can be grown in an area. Rainfall is one of the main contributors to Hydration, which is an exact measure of how wet the soil is in a given location, and is used by Crops, Fruit Trees, and Berry Bushes to determine if they can grow.
