Watercraft

Travelling the world, or just traversing your locality, is often best done by navigable waterways.

Creating and using a boat may be slightly more involved than you're used to, but there's nothing quite like building the perfect craft and setting off on the high seas. Peruse this manual and learn the ins and outs of carving, crafting, constructing, piloting, and customizing to your delight.

Dugout Canoe

To build a Dugout Canoe, place 3 stripped logs in a row, horizontally, and cut off the tops with a saw. Then, carve out the canoe shape with an axe. Finally, light the inside of the canoe on fire to hollow out the hull. It will take the same amount of time as a pit kiln to complete the hollowing process. Don't forget to craft a paddle!

Wood types:

Carving out a Dugout Canoe requires a softer wood, and as a result, only some logs are workable:

Douglas Fir
Pine
Chestnut
Spruce
Aspen
Kapok
Rosewood
White Cedar
Willow

How else are you supposed to control your canoe? With your blocky hands?

A few more canoe tips to take with you:

Two players riding and holding paddles will increase your speed!
Is there a mob riding your canoe and you want it out of there? Crouch and press Right Click to eject it. Finally, shotgun is all yours.
More than one mob cannot ride in the canoe at a time, but up to two players can ride together.

Kayak

Your best overland solo-adventure friend. Of course, being the only boat that can be carried as an item helps. It's also fast, maneuverable, and super fun to paddle.

Kayaks are the smallest and most portable boats.
